The best Kiwi friends ever

17 november 2019 - Foxton Beach, Nieuw-Zeeland

This story will be in English (i will give it a try) because we hope that our friends will read it too.

Six years ago we were also in NZ and during that trip we visited the Cormandel penisula. One evening we were searching for a restaurant an found something that looked like it. We went in and asked if we could have a meal, of course no problem. Ok do you have a table for us to sit? Sit wherever you like. But that was the problem no free tables. So we joined four people, we asked if we could sit with them, of course no problem. It were four kiwi's that were also thaere for a holiday. This concept (sit wherever you want) makes you talk very quickly to other people. So we started talking to them and we discovered that the two men were cyclist too. And everybody knows cyclist have Always something in commen; theri love for the bike. So we talked about cycling, mountains in France, crashing etc etc. At the end of the evening we were invited by them to come for coffee the next morning because we still had a lott tot talk about. So the next morning we went over to their holidayhouse nearby. So where are you going from here, i told them the whole trip. Oke so you pass Wellington, that's we city we live, come for a coffee over there. We did and the coffee became a guided trip through Wellington and a great meal. This was the start of a friendship with Beverly and Evan, a friendship mainly by Messenger, talking about cycling and of course The All Blacks, the best rugbyteam in the world.

And now we could visit them again in their new house in Waikanae and their appartment in Wellington. The arrival and the the first moments were as if we never had parted. From the start on there was a great click between the four of us. Beverly said that Evan an I looked like "brothers from another mother".

Their house was amazing, on a beautifull spot, a lott of space, great kitchen with a lott of novelties i liked very much, great art and Beverly is an amazing cook ( at least 5 stars). We never stopped talking. I don't know about what we talked about, every subject was covered, cycling, doing the laundry, the idiot Trump, the weather, personal things. As if we knew eachother for 25 years.

Evan took us in his great car; a jaguar, to al kinfd of diffrent places, loking at the neighbourhood, the beach, sometimes a bar or coffeehouse. Some amazing stops; in a local museum with a kinds of stuff from different periods telling the stort of Waikanae. A trip trhough memory lane for us all, all kinds of things we remembered from our youth, all for of us had similar experiences (although we lived 20.000 km from eachother).

Another museum we visited was the trammuseum. That was also fascinating, a trip in an old tram but more the guy who worked there took us to the back an showed us the restoration of the trams and told all kind of great stories.

But the best were all the sitting together and telling stories or just talking about our families and friends. We did have a lott in common and that made it very special. We were told that the Kiwi's were very friendly people but i must say that our two great friend  are the number one kiwi's concerning that.

Beverly and Evan thank you very, very, very much for letting us stay with you, for all the great meals, the whisky, wine and beers, but before alle for your great love afriendship. We felt at home staying with you. We can't wait to invite you in our house so we can spoil you.

Wow Willy and Wilma, what a fantastic blog, do we know these people that you talk about? 🤣
The pleasure was all ours - you were great house guests, but more importantly, wonderful friends. We’ll cherish the memories of our weekend with you both forever. You were so kind to our kids when they visited you in Holland it was nice to be able to repay your kindness. Looking forward to our next time together in 2021 in the Netherlands. Kia kaha, arohanui, Bev and Evan
